Elyos character creation
Since it was obvious each one had their own advantages that would be wielded as you sunk more time into their development, this animation gave more of a sense of the classes that you could expand on. The leveling curve really highlights how much of a grind there is. Getting to Level 2 is practically instantaneous once you get out in the world. Level 3 comes shortly thereafter. But then you get to Level 5 or 6 and then you discover that you're really having to kill a lot creatures and do a lot of quests to make a dent in the XP bar. The art style is different from WoW; there's no mistaking this is an Asian-designed MMO, from the short skirt fetish to the aforementioned spiky armor and equally spiky anime hairstyles. As an aside, it'd be nice to see one of these companies really defy convention and deliver something fresh and unique.
Asmodae isn't as lush or as verdant as Elyos; the ground is cracked and rocky with patches of weeds or plants here and there, the sky seems to shift from purple and pink to a pale yellow, which I guess is their equivalent of a clear blue sky. But that's not to say there aren't some beautiful areas – just outside of the main village at the start of the game is a giant tree set in the middle of a lake where plenty of indigenous life roams. While you were mentioning earlier this week that many of your quests involved protecting the people of your lands from these creatures attacking your farms, in Asmodae, there's more of a kill or be killed mentality to some of the quests. Back to topic, Aion was built on the CryEngine that powered Far Cry, but it's obviously been heavily modified and enhanced here. I was hoping for some ridiculous draw distances, just like in Far Cry, but they're not here.
